Custom Reporting for CrashPlan PRO using Python and the REST API

CrashPlan PRO has some nice reports but sometimes you just want to dump raw data so you can do your own thing with it.

Here's an example of how to use the CrashPlan PRO REST API to dump out tab-delimited columns of data. Output looks like this:

Pro Drupal Development, Third Edition arrives

The author's copies of Pro Drupal 7 Development, Third Edition arrived today.

This is the first edition in which I was not at all involved. In fact, I did not even get to see it until page proofs came out, at which point I corrected over 300 errors in the proofs over a weekend.

Solution to SAS 9.2 Installer Crashing on Windows 7 on VMWare Fusion

When installing SAS on Windows 7, typically you'd right-click on setup.exe and choose Run as Administrator, watch the SAS Deployment Wizard come up and the blue progress bar start moving. But! Then Windows 7 suddenly says "Console Window Host has stopped working." and offers to close the program. The Deployment Wizard may run for a while longer and silently disappear.

The entry in the Windows Application Log is not much help; it just says "Event 1000, Application Error: Faulting application name: conhost.exe".

Logrotate configuration file for Apache Solr on RHEL5

I'm running Solr using Jetty and logging to /var/log/solr.log.

This log is growing so I added a logrotate entry at /etc/logrotate.d/solr as follows:

# Logrotate file for /var/log/solr.log
/var/log/solr.log {
   rotate 5
   compress
   size 10M
   weekly
   postrotate
     /sbin/service solr restart
   endscript
}

Since this is a new file, the SELinux security context is off for /etc/logrotate.d/solr:
